Frequently Asked
Questions
Q:
What are you going to do with the depot?
A:
Approximately 1,100 people use Amtrak from the depot every month.
Therefore, first and foremost the depot will continue to serve the community as a place to
board Amtrak trains. On street level of the depot, there will be a business
whose rent will go to help maintain the building. At track level, there will be a museum dedicated to
the history of Coles County. To read more in depth, see the following
page: The Vision
Q: What can I
do to help?
A: There are a
number of ways to help. What we need most is your tax-deductible donation: You Can Help! For more
ideas, see the Donations
page.
Q:
Why call it "Project Depot" instead of "Project
Station"?
A:
A depot refers to a building. A station refers to a named point on a
railroad. Most depots are located at a station, including the Mattoon
depot. Our focus is on the building, hence "Project
Depot".
